Essie BHG Beautiful Glitter Sandwich

Saturday, May 12, 2012
A few weeks ago I received a package in the mail from Essie. You should have seen the confused look on my face as I opened it since I did not order anything from Essie and have not been contacted by them for any reviews. Inside the package was one Essie polish with the name of BHG Beautiful on the bottom. No other messages in the package to indicate why I was receiving this. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining about getting free polish, just a bit baffled at the source. After some investigating it turns out that I won a Better Homes and Garden Essie Giveaway that I entered in September of last year. Better late than never I guess... :D

The polish is a jelly so I decided to make a glitter sandwich with it. I started out with two coats of BHG Beautiful followed by one thick coat of Essie Set in Stones and one more coat of BHG Beautiful. The whole thing was topped off with a top coat for shine. I just love the depth of glitter sandwiches. This one makes me think of a sangria with berries beneath the surface. Yum...

A closer look at the glitter...

A peek at what it looked like before the final coat of BHG Beautiful. Essie Set in Stones is a silver glitter in a clear base. It usually applies much thinner and would need a few coats to build up to this much glitter, but I was feeling lazy so this is one thick, messy coat of the Set in Stones with no top coat. I wanted to make sure I had plenty of glitter for the sandwich...

Taking apart the sandwich even further, BHG Beautiful itself is a deep wine jelly. I'm not sure if this is just a relabel of one of their standard polishes, but I wouldn't be surprised. Application was good and it covered well in two coats. The formula is shiny enough that the swatches here are without a top coat. Looking at the photos I see some bald spots toward the cuticles which were not visible in real life, but since I was layering over it, this didn't really matter...
