Polish Days: Bling!

Tuesday, December 4, 2012
It is the first Tuesday of the month which could only mean one thing, Polish Days. With the holidays just around the corner it was time for something sparkly on the nails and this month's very appropriate theme is Bling! It was the perfect opportunity to finally play with some of the loose glitter I got a while ago. Unfortunately when I started going through my stash of glitter I realized I was missing an essential one to make this work. Green! So I headed to Wal-Mart after work, at midnight, to pick some up. Yes, I really was that crazy person buying glitter at midnight, but it was worth it...

I also entered this manicure in the Nail Polish Canada Nail Art Challenge for this week. It is their last challenge out of three, but the first one I'm entering. I'm kind of late to the game, but better late than never. Please check out all the beautiful entries and vote for your favorite. If that happens to be me, that would be great, but if not that's OK too. Vote for your favorite... :)

I started out the manicure with Barielle Lindsay's Dancin' which is a gorgeous darkened red shimmer from the new holiday Carnival Fiesta collection. If all goes well, I will show you full swatches toward the end of the week. For adding the glitter I used a great Glequin Tutorial from Sammy, The Nailasaurus. She does the most amazing glequin/glitter manicures and doing one myself, I have a whole new appreciation for her patience and perfect glitter placement...

I used green hex glitter for the tree and one piece of gold hex above the tree, but it blended in and is not at all noticeable in photos or in real life. The rest of the nails were covered in a sheer iridescent hex glitter. In the bottle the glitter reminded me of snow, sheer and white. On the nails, it took on a life of it's own with gorgeous gold, green and violet color shifts. Not at all what I expected, but I absolutely love it! I'm tempted to try this little glitter over every polish color now, just to see what it does...

Although I only needed 24 little green glitters for each accent nail, I ended up getting a "tub" of it at Wal-Mart last night. I should mention this 4oz jar was the smallest container they had. There were smaller tubes of glitter, but not the shape/size that I wanted. I pretty certain that I have enough green glitter for the rest of my life. Maybe I should start making nail polish... Anyone interested in clear with lots and lots of green glitter? ;)

That's all for today! I hope you enjoyed this manicure and don't hesitate to let me know what you think of it!

Thanks for looking!
