Ruby Wing Doux and Strawberry Shortcake

I was starting to worry that I wouldn't get another good sunny day to photograph these two Ruby Wing shades, but it was such a gorgeous morning yesterday that I dropped everything else I was doing and swatched these two beauties! If only I didn't have to hurry and run off to work, I would have loved to create some nail art. Work would understand if i showed up late because I was playing with polish, right?


Ruby Wing Doux
Doux consists of beautiful translucent to purple glass flecks packed in a solar active base which is transparent indoors and purple under the sun. Indoors, it reminds me a lot of Color Club Pearl-spective, although I have not compared the two. I would usually be tempted to layer this over something dark and really show off the flecks, but since I wanted to capture the color change, I layered it over white. In addition to being solar active, Doux is also a perfume scented. This is two coats over white with no top coat...

Outside, under the sun, the polish in the bottle turned to a vibrant purple. On my nail it was more of a periwinkle blue and sometimes even gray, although I didn't capture the gray state. I think the difference between bottle and nail color outdoors could be due to my white base, but I chose to use it with a base since indoors it would just look like nakie nails...

I just love this color! It is hard to believe this drastic transformation from indoors to outdoors. I think it is fun that you can have a nice neutral manicure for the office/indoors and when you go out, it turns to something more fun...

Ruby Wing Strawberry Shortcake
Small gold and holographic glitter packed in a solar active base. There is also some red, green and more small glitter sprinkled in. The base is clear indoors and turns to a burgundy red out under the sun. This can easily be layered over other polishes for a topper effect, but today I chose to use it on it's own. It builds up to almost complete coverage at three coats. The tips are difficult to wrap is using this on it's own. Similarly to Doux, this polish is also perfume scented. Swatches are with no top coat...

Outside, it is once again a dramatic color transformation. The glitter seems to embed itself in a burgundy jelly base. I just love it!

Make sure to do your clean up of these outside when the color changes because you will not see all the issues until the color changes. Trust me on that one, my cuticles looked awful ;)

Ruby Wing Crowd Surf...

Anyone in Seattle will tell you that you have to enjoy the sunshine while it lasts because around here summer is short. I'm savoring every bit of sunshine that I can and what better way to enjoy it than with a Solar Active shade from Ruby Wing. Even if you are the type of person who doesn't like going outside, these will make you want to go out just to watch it change...

Indoors, Ruby Wing Crowd Surf is a bright neon fuchsia purple. The formula is nice and smooth, easy to apply. Three coats as seen in these swatches will provide full coverage. It dries to a satin finish which is beautiful, but I did use a top coat for these swatches...

A quick shot of what it looks like before the top coat. Satin-y and soft...

Outdoors, Crowd Surf quickly changes to a deep berry burgundy shade. In real life, the change is a bit more dramatic than it appears in these swatches as it changes from a purple to a more red and much darker shade...

It is a gorgeous shade indoor and out. I was also excited that unlike the shades of the Spring collection, this Summer shade is unscented!
