More Awards...

I got tagged with two more awards this past week. I'm so flattered that they picked me. Hopefully you guys are not sick of reading about me :)

First is the One Lovely Blog Award from Minnie of Mini Nail Blog. I have been following her for quite a while and she does some amazing nail art, so make sure to check her blog out. Thank you so much Minnie!

The Randomness:
1. I keep every greeting card I get. Makes me smile when I look back at them.

2. I'm neat and organized at work (clutter drives me crazy), but my desk at home is a complete mess...

3. My favorite show right now is Rules of Engagement. So funny!

4. I have about 450 nail polishes and running out of room to store them. Never thought I could accumulate so much in one year :)

5. I don't like dim lights or when it is dusky outside. I'm usually the first to turn lights on...

6. I share my birthday with my nephew and love it. He was born on my 25th and we have been blowing out our birthday candles together every year since then :)

7. I'm bad at small talk and have a hard time coming up with random things to talk about (or about me) ;)

1. What is your favorite fashion magazine? 
None. I have not subscribed to any fashion magazines in ages, but I do look at Glamour & Allure websites occasionally :)

2. Who is your favorite singer/band?
There are no favorites... only ones I like and ones I don't like. I can pretty much listen to Rob Thomas or Nickelback all day long... Their voices are mesmerizing :)

3. Who is your favorite YouTube guru?
Again, I can't just settle on one...
Tartofraises Nail Art and Robin Moses Nail Art are both just amazing!!

4. What is your favorite makeup product?
Chapstick!

5. Where would you like to live?
I live in the US :)

UPDATE: I miss read the question and answered "where do you live?" Sigh! Blame it on lack of sleep...
I would like to live somewhere warm and beachy... the Greek Islands look nice :)

6. What is your favorite film?
Dirty Dancing, have seen it soooo many times :)

7. How many pairs of shoes do you own?
At least 50... lots of boots and sandals. Funny thing is 99% of the time I'm wearing my Dansko clogs. They are the only thing I can wear to work that won't kill my feet. :)

8. What is your favorite color?
No favorites, I like black/gray/brown for what I wear a lot. In terms of nail polish color I'm still only discovering the possibilities...

The Questions
What is your go to makeup product?
 A touch of cover-up and some eye shadow (yes, usually just one, nothing fancy here) is all that I use.

What was your favorite fashion trend of 2011?
I'm not the most fashion forward person, so I'll tell you what my favorite polish trend was. That would be foils. I love the look of metal on my nails, but without the annoying streaks or see-throughness (yes, I'm making up words) of other metallic polishes. And as an added bonus they are perfect for stamping.

What is your favorite dessert?
 Pretty much anything with duche de leche or sweetened condensed milk. I love that stuff... oh and making your own dulche de leche from sweetened condensed milk can't be beat! Brings back childhood memories for me.

Favorite color?
Plum and lately deep navy blue on my nails. Black/grey in terms of clothes I like to wear. I think half of my closet is black and grey :)

What is your middle name?
Nice try! Although nothing exciting, it is my father's first name with a special ending per Russian traditions... ;)

What was the last song you listened to? 
All Your Life by The Band Perry. Loving that song right now!

Cats or Dogs?
 Both, but I'm allergic so neither :P


The Share
 I have recently become obsessed with Pinterest. That site is addicting. I love seeing what people pin and getting inspired. Pinning things myself has helped me go through the links I was saving. Now I can just visually see them, so much more appealing than bookmarks or text files. It is perfect!

More Blog Awards...

I was lucky enough to get tagged with a whole bunch of awards by the lovey Antallex of Notes on Nails. Thanks so much! If you have not seen her blog yet, then you are missing out. She has amazing nails and swatches that I'm always drooling over...

I have gotten most of the awards in her tag before, so I will post here the two that are new to me...



I'm not sure on the specific rules for these, but assuming the standard rules of say something about yourself and pass it on. Also, I usually just re-post things about me from previous tags, but I decided to write something new this time since I love reading other bloggers' interesting facts...

So here are ten things about me... :D
1. I "met" my boyfriend when he called a friend of mine who couldn't talk to him at the time and so she handed the phone to me. We had a great conversation and kept calling each other for about 6 months before actually meeting... that was 13 years ago and we are still together :)
2. Every year, I donate to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. It is a great organization treating childhood cancer and they never deny treatment to anyone for inability to pay. This year I donated to them through a local radio-thon which was raffling off a bunch of stuff every hour to get callers. I ended up winning the "raffle of the hour" when I called - a guitar autographed by about 15 country singers including Toby Keith, Keith Urban, Martina McBride, Carrie Underwood... also got to go see Toby Keith and Eric Church in concert...
3. I love the idea of decorating, but hate the execution of it. I look through magazine and online to collect ideas. I can picture what I want most of the rooms in the house to look like, but I have lived in my house almost two years and am still at the bare minimum in furniture and hardly anything on the walls. I even bought curtains I want to hang, but they are still in packages... more than a year later...
4. I collect shot glasses from places I visit, but never actually use them for drinking...
5. I also collect other memorabilia from trips with the intention of someday making a scrapbook. I now have tons of stuff and have only made two scrapbook pages ever (and they were not even trip related...)
6. My first career was as a web developer writing code and helping develop/maintain a web application. When the dot-com crash happened I went back to school and became a pharmacist...
7. During pharmacy school we had to do required "volunteering" for which I visited a nursing home once a week and gave sweet little old ladies manicures. I often think that I should find time to do that again!
8. I'm a Gemini which apparently explains why I get easily bored with stuff and jump from one thing to another. I have tried many crafts as they all look so interesting to me. The ones that stuck the most were cake decorating, candle carving (some of which you can see in my previous award tag...), and jewelry making... my favorite is definitely making earrings...


9. I'm really bad at small talk. I can sit next to a person and be completely blank on anything interesting to say. Once I get to know people I can talk to them for hours...
10. I have a bit of a sweet tooth and cannot resist anything with sweetened condensed milk in it...

I was recently tagged with four blog awards! I am so honored that these two ladies deemed me award worthy. Thank you so much!! :D

Facts about me...
I'm actually re-posting 10 facts about me from when I got the Kreativ Blogger Award because I'm just that lazy this morning... sorry to those that have seen this before :D

1. I was born in Belorussia, hence the name of my blog... Laki means polish in Russian
2. I am a reformed nail bitter. When I was about 12 years old, I made a bet with a couple of good friends to see who could hold off biting their nails the longest. That summer we all quit biting them :D
3. I have the first bottle of polish that started my addiction (about 25 years old and direct from Belorussia). There is not enough in the bottle to even swatch, but I just can't let it go...
4. I love getting a good deal on things (as witnessed by my excitement over my first Ulta trip...).
5. I love country music for which I get teased by my non-country music loving friends.
6. At one point I wanted to have my own business carving candles and even took a class to learn how. My mom talked me out of it (thanks Mommy!!!) and I became a pharmacist instead. Now I just carve for fun :)
7. Other hobbies include making jewelry (you can see a few at the bottom of this post) and decorating cakes
8. I suck at painting other peoples nails. As much as I love to paint my own, when I try with someone else, it always comes out sloppy. I don't have good coordination polishing toward me...
9. I really dislike when other people do my nails, which I why I very seldom get a professional manicure. They just never come out the right size or shape. I'm also very particular that they all have to match... and that never happens when someone else does it, so it is easier to just do it myself.
10. I don't like feet/toes. I can tolerate my own and even give them pedicures, but other people... just please keep your toes away from me and we will remain friends. This is another constant source of amusement for some friends... :)

As much as I love nail polish, cosmetics is really not my thing. I wear very little of it, a bit of cover up and some eyeshadow... so don't expect too much from my top 10 :)
