Happy Thanksgivukkah!

Thursday, November 28, 2013
I would like to wish you all a very Happy Thanksgivukkah (Thanksgiving + Hanukkah). Did you know such a term exists? I didn't, but I like it. Another one to add to my vocabulary for today is menurkey (menorah that looks like a turkey). I'm looking forward to a relaxing day off and a yummy dinner with my family. Hopefully you are having a wonderful day too!

My manicure today was inspired by this very image that I found online. I had been trying to decide how to combine the two holidays in one manicure and thought it would be fun to either paint a menurkey or a turkey lighting a menorah. Once I saw this image, I knew it had to be the later...

For this manicure I used a base of KBShimmer You Autumn Know. I purchased this beauty on the day it was released, but have not gotten a chance to wear it yet. Now that Fall is almost over, I wanted to make sure I didn't miss my opportunity to wear it. Swatches of it by itself are further down in the post....

All of the drawing was done using acrylic paints except for the menorah for which I used Essie Good as Gold  over black acrylic paint. I 'lit' the candles on the menorah with gold holographic glitter. It blends a bit too much with the glitter already in the base, but it does sparkle beautifully in reality. I absolutely love how this manicure turned out. It definitely makes it to the top of my favorite manicures...

Oh and if you are wondering what is on my Cinderella (right) hand... well it's just You Autumn Know with no added art. There is no way I can get this detail onto both hands so I decided to just leave it as one 'accent' hand. I actually do that occasionally, especially when I'm doing detailed freehand. If I had more time, I would have created decals of these image to mirror on my left hand, but this took too long as it is :)

KBShimmer You Autumn Know
A white crelly filled with gold, orange and purple glitter in various shapes and sizes. It is so beautiful, I just can't get enough of it! What is it about glitter packed white crellies that I find so irresistible? The formula is great. Applies easily and is loaded with glitter in each brush stroke. I used three coats to get full coverage. Swatches are with a top coat to smooth out the glitter...

It even has bar glitter which I'm not usually a fan of, but it is so teeny tiny and works perfectly with this combination that I really like it...

KBShimmer Oh Splat! Gets Splattered

Tuesday, November 13, 2012
It was only a few months ago that I saw this adorable Oh Splat! manicure created by Marta of ChitChatNails and it has been on my must try list ever since. It is no surprise then, that as soon as KBShimmer Oh Splat! was on my nails, I knew what I had to do. I didn't have the exact stamp and colors that Marta used so I improvised, but I love how it turned out. I feel like a little kid whose been painting and getting messy all day...

The manicure started out with two coats of KBShimmer Oh Splat!. I used the Bundle Monster plate BM03 for stamping and then filled in the empty center of each splat with the same color using a dotting tool. For the stamping polishes I used KleanColor Metallics in aqua (index, pinkie), orange (middle), sapphire (middle, ring), purple (ring, pinkie)...

Huge thanks to Marta for the inspiration and lots of happy little splatters!

Next time I wear this polish, I should really get messy and try a true splatter manicure similar to the bloody one I did for Halloween...

I hope you enjoyed this manicure...

KBShimmer Oh Splat! and Quantum Leaf

Monday, November 12, 2012
Last Friday, I showed you two glitter top coats from the KBShimmer Bath and Body Winter collection. Today I'm excited to show you two more KBShimmer polishes, this time from the Fall release. I fell for both of these polishes when I first saw swatches of them popping up on my favorite blogs. Both of them were on my wish list and I'm so grateful to Christy, the mastermind and tallent behind KBShimmer, for giving me the opportunity to play with them. Take a look at these gorgeous glitter beauties...

Oh Splat!
A milky white base with various sized glitters in all colors of the rainbow. The perfect jelly glitter sandwich in a bottle. The formula and glitter distribution is great. The glitter spreads evenly and does not bunch up in one spot. I applied two thin coats for full coverage followed by a top coat. It reminds me of jawbreaker candies that used to be so popular...

Closeup of the lovely polish. I'm so amazed that it can be opaque in two coats yet sheer enough to let the glitter shine through...

Quantum Leaf
A mustard yellow jelly base with multi-sized and shaped gold, orange and red glitter. In addition to all the glitter, this beauty has a gold shimmer to it. It is the perfect fall color. Makes me think of piles of leaves on the ground, hence the name. The formula on this one is great as well. The glitter spreads evenly and two coats of polish provide full nail coverage. Swatches are with a top coat...

Closer look to show you the glitter and shimmer in this little beauty...

KBShimmer Wrappers Delight and Candy Cane Crush

Friday, November 9, 2012
Christy of KBShimmer Bath and Body was so generous to give me the opportunity to try a few of her gorgeous creation. This was my first time trying the brand and I can officially say that I am hooked. Today I want to show you two glitter top coats from the Winter collection. The collection has a total of nine polishes and will be coming out on November 15th. These not only look like the holidays, but one of them even smells like it and the other helps raise money for a wonderful holiday charity. Keep reading to find out more...

Wrappers Delight is a limited edition polish, available only for one month (Nov. 15th to Dec. 15th). Five dollars from the sale of each $10 bottle of Wrappers Delight will be used to purchase toys for the Toys for Tots charity. Through the charity, the toys are given to deserving children who otherwise would get no presents this holiday. It doesn't get better than that...

Wrappers Delight (over Essence A Piece of Forever)
A mix of red, green and gold glitter of different sizes suspended in a clear base. I layered two thin coats over the gold Essence A Piece of Forever. The glitter spreads evenly without any problems. The formula is excellent for a chunky glitter top such a this. It looks really fantastic and with the colors it certainly is a wrappers delight. Bow and ribbons, oh my..

Closeup of the different glitter. I can see at least four different sizes of hex glitter as well as lots of small glitter. All mesh so perfectly together...

Wrappers Delight (over Essence Alice Had a Vision - Again)
This is the same Wrapper Delight as above except I layered it over a dark polish to bring out all the gold glitter. While it looks great over the gold, I'm crazy about it over the dark Essence Alice Has a Vision - Again. Just goes to show how versatile this top coat is and that it can look great over both light and dark base polishes. What color would you layer it over? I think it would rock over a great purple shade...

Again, a closeup of the gorgeous glitter mix....

Here is a mandatory bottle shot. It is a glitter bomb for sure...

Candy Cane Crush (over Essence Edward's Protection)
White and gold glitter of different sizes suspended in a clear base. The glitter size ranges from teeny tiny to large hex glitter and everything in between. I thought that black, white and red would make a perfect combination, so this is just one coat over Essence Edward's Protection. The formula on the polish is great, providing nice and even coverage.

It is scented with a delicious soft vanilla peppermint scent. When it dries on the nails, it smells like a candy cane. I was smelling my fingers for hours after swatching and was really tempted to lick them (although I resisted). I even stuck them in my boyfriends face and said "smell my finger." He gave me quite the look, but after I insisted, saying "No seriously, smell my finger. What does it smell like?" He obliged and said it smells like candy. Ding, ding, ding! Right on the nose. The scent does linger even after the polish is removed. It is not an overwhelming smell and personally I really like it...

A close up of the different glitter. Again, hex glitter in many different sizes, primarily in white with a bit of red tossed in...

Candy Cane Crush (over Zoya Logan)
This is once again, Candy Cane Crush, the same polish as above. This time I swatched it over Zoya Logan for a more holiday look and feel. The red and green combination is synonymous with the holidays and the combination of the two worked wonderfully together. I used one coat of the glitter plus a top coat...

How many sizes of hex glitter do you see?...

A bottle shot of this beauty...
